OK, maybe I was a little harsh in my rant regarding my experience with a former dancing parter. However, does anyone know what it's like to have someone "fawn" over you and then act like you're invisible?
When the music started the other evening this man actually shifted in his seat away from me and offered his hand to the "other woman." Yeah, yeah, yeah..... It wasn't the first time a man has done this to me, and it probably won't be the last.
On a lighter note, I met a group of singles for dinner and dancing last night and had a wonderful time. However, I almost crossed the New Mexico/Mexico border trying to find the restaurant. Billy Crews grills up a savory steak and will even hand filet it to your specifications. Afterwards, there was a one-man band that played some very fine country-western and pop music. A couple of over indulgent cowboys decided to showcase their dancing abilities on the floor. What a riot!
So, while I'm not so sure my "prince" will ever come, life is good and definitely what you make it!
This one's for you Carl!
If you're one of the people who don't like rants, please travel on to a more "relaxing" weblog. Although I've touched on the subject before, my latest encounter with the opposite sex has precipitated this "rant."
Ballroom dancing is my hobby, and one I love. Strike up the band and spin me around the floor and I think I'm in heaven. Am I looking for romance on the dance floor? Do I think I'll find "Mr. Right" easing into a Fox Trot? Hardly. It's a dance, not romance. (Thank you very much!)
However, some men (predators they are) like to think that women will swoon for them if they can: a. Keep time with the music and/or b. Not step on women's toes.
However, if you are old enough to be my father I'm especially not interested in romance. Case in point: A certain man "sought me out" on the dance floor a number of times only to "shift his focus" to a woman more his age. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's dancing with the older chick. However, dance etiquette dictates that if a gentleman (and I use that term loosely) asks you to dance, it is impolite to decline. I danced with him, had dinner, etc... However, when we're both sitting at the same table (with the old chick) and the band begins I turn invisible. Trying to be "nice" apparently doesn't work well for me.
OK, now you can all point your fingers and scoff. What in the heck were you thinking anyway? Yeah, yeah!
So, what did I do. Well, I told the "old geezer" that he WAS too old for me and to dance with the old chick that was more his age. Then, I took my glass of Merlot and sampled the ballroom dancing talents of many younger (and better) dancers.
My lesson has been learned - I'm sticking with men who are within my age range and not yet on Viagra. Being polite and politically correct only go so far.....
Gee, it's been quite a while since I've posted. The reason for that is I'm not traveling and am home for awhile. I read the postings of others who are fortunate to have the opportunity to travel full-time. One bright spot is that I booked a New Year's Eve cruise on HAL for the Mexican Riviera. I really miss traveling.
Yesterday was the Feast of St. Francis and our church had the Blessing of the Animals. Do you know how hard it is to operate a camera with one hand and manage a fiesty terrier-mix with the other? I've always liked St. Francis, and have an icon in a little nicho in my RV. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes, along with some cats. It was a nice service.

Labor Day weekend always seems to evoke a feeling of sadness. The summer is over (for the most part) and the days get shorter, etc... Since gasoline is averaging $2.99/gallon in New Mexico, I decided it would be better to stay close to home over the long weekend.
Today I went with some of my gal pals to an annual wine festival held at the fairgrounds. For one price, attendees received a souviner wine glass and unlimited "tastings" from an array of New Mexico wineries. There was also food, craft booths, and live music. A very nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. http://www.nmwine.com/
